Fairview School Principal Al Velasquez told the Gonzales Unified School District Board of Trustees last week that eighth-grade students were having fun with the College Awareness Week program and were playing games related to college topics during lunch.
Velasquez also spoke of what they are doing at the school to get students ready for high school, with an individualized growth plan for each student.
Velasquez said he was proud of the students who achieved a 4.0 GPA and over.
He mentioned the Gifted and Talented Education students would soon be involved in a program with the Monterey County Cultural Council.
Fairview Counselor Juanita Perea, headed up the GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness) College Is In My Future program, with a curriculum written by the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) GEAR UP program.
